We contacted Allegra’s maker (Opella) to get their statement on gluten status. According to the manufacturer, Allegra is not certified gluten free, as “there is no standardized certification process.” However, a sample of Allegra tested below 5 ppm gluten, and none of its ingredients are derived from wheat, barley, rye, oats, or spelt.

Labeled gluten free alternative below.
What The Manufacturer Stated:
“There is no standardized gluten-free certification process, so this product is not gluten-free certified. Even if the product is tested, manufacturing lines can change to accommodate alternate products. Therefore, to be certified as gluten-free, the entire site would need certification.
A sample from a commercially available product was tested for gluten. Gluten level results were less than 5 ppm, which is below the FDA minimum level that can be reliably detected.
None of ALLEGRA’s ingredients contain or are derived from barley, oats, rye, spelt, or wheat.
The source of pregelatinized starch is maize (corn) starch. Corn gluten is present in pregelatinized starch. Corn gluten is not gliadin gluten, which is what most people develop sensitivity to.
In most cases, knowing the source of the gluten and type of gluten is enough information to decide on product use. Please refer to your allergist if you have high sensitivity to gluten.”
A Gluten Free Fexofenadine Alternative:
Try Costco Kirkland Signature Aller-Fex. They are labeled gluten free. Always verify on the current product box or bottle as formulas can change.
